Nana Patekar, veteran Indian actor, has passed away at the age of 75. The famed actor died on Thursday, 8 October 2026, in the Indian state of Goa after being reported as unconscious at his home in Dona Paula. Nana Patekar reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to Manipal Hospital where doctors could not revive him, the reports said. He was reportedly declared dead after medical teams reportedly continued CPR for some 45 minutes. A medico-legal case has been opened and he will be undergoing a post-mortem which is scheduled to give more details about his death.
Nana Patekar was born Vishwanath Patekar, on 1 January 1951. He was a versatile talent who worked in HIndi and Marathi films, theatre and filmmaking. His entry into the acting world was in theatre and then a Hindi film in 1978, Gaman. In the many years that followed, he developed a reputation for being an actor with a strong screen presence, a unique voice and hyperactive acting. He became one of the most sought after character actors in Indian cinema with his films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Natsamrat and Raajneeti.
Patekar also received some of the most coveted awards in the Indian film industry. In his career he has picked up three National Film Awards for his acting efforts in Parinda, Krantiveer and Agni Sakshi.
